To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him, the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.

— St. Augustine of Hippo

 What To Expect

When we gather on Sunday mornings to celebrate the Holy Eucharist (communion, the Lord’s supper), we follow an ancient liturgy combined with both traditional hymns and contemporary worship. Liturgy means “work of the people,” inviting us to worship. We encounter Jesus in the Scriptures and in breaking the bread (sacrament).

Jesus once said that the Father seeks worshipers who will worship him in Spirit and Truth. This is achieved in different ways in both liturgy and free-form worship.

Our Sunday Eucharist Service Format

Liturgy of the Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

God has spoken to us in his Son, Jesus Christ, the eternal Word made a human being. His sheep (his followers), says Jesus, hear his voice. Therefore, the Holy Scriptures form the sure foundation of our liturgy. We use the Book of Common Prayer as our order of worship.

Liturgy of the Table

The liturgy of the word moves us forward to the centerpiece of Anglican worship, the liturgy of the table or altar. We call this section of our worship the celebration of the Eucharist or thanksgiving. Fundamental to our existence is to glorify God and offer thanks to him. Christ has died, Christ has risen, and Christ will come again! This calls for thankful celebration!

 Children

The Gospels portray Jesus drawing close to children with deep affection. "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:14). In this passage, all the little children brought to Jesus received from him the laying on of hands with prayer (v. 13). Children can know Jesus profoundly! Peter proclaimed on the day of Pentecost that the promise of the Holy Spirit is for the entire family: adults, children, and all who are far away from God (Acts 2:39).

We all play a role in their godly formation. While parents have the primary oversight of this task, it takes an extended family to provide a wider pool of nurturing relationships.

During worship, our children remain through all the Scripture readings and then are blessed and sent to participate in Godly Play, our children's church curriculum. They return to be with their families during the Eucharist (Communion).

Godly Play is rooted in story, wonder, liturgy, discovery and joy as children seek and find the mystery of God's presence. It is based upon the recognition that children have an innate sense of the presence of God. All they lack is the appropriate language to help them identify and express it so it can be explored and strengthened. The Godly Play approach teaches classical Christian language in a way that enhances the child’s authentic experience of God so it can contribute to the creative life of the child and the world.

The curriculum follows the liturgical year and imparts the richness of Holy Time.

Godly Play is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance.

Godly Play has a Montessori foundation with 40+ years of research and practice.

Godly Play values process, openness, discovery, community, and relationships.

Godly Play models the worship life, stories, symbols, sacraments, and observations of the Christian calendar.

Godly Play allows practitioners to make relevant and personal theological meaning.

Godly Play nurtures children to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play.

We believe that our children, baptized and members of Christ and his Church, belong in worship with the whole congregation; therefore, before dismissal to their classes, our children are present throughout the procession, hymns and Scripture readings. They return with their families for Holy Communion. In this way, they are being formed through age-appropriate catechism (Godly Play) and in family worship. They are most welcomed! Let the children come to him!

All classes follow safe protocols with vetted teachers, current background checks, and two or more teachers to a class.
